Mt. Napulak

Mt. Napulak is the second highest peak in Iloilo located at Barangay Bagay, Igbaras at the southern part of Iloilo Province. Don't get too excited! You need proper gear and cardio exercises before you head up. You'll also be needing a guide for the hike. Trust me on this! For a first timer like me to take on the challenge, I definitely didn't see this coming! Things I learned (the hard way) during the venture: (1) pack light and better with wind protecting clothes (2) water and canned goods, creating fire can be a challenge in the uber cold atmosphere (3) gear up, you need proper protection that includes sunscreens, hats, gloves, sturdy shoes and warm clothes (4) rest if you must but never give up, remember you set your own pace (5) condition yourself physically (cardio exercises like jogging) and mentally. It's a 5-6 hours trek for beginners depending on the pace.

How to get there? From Mohon Terminal to Igbaras town proper cost around php 27 or go to the Super Market at the back of Robinson Place Iloilo and take an Igbaras jeepney which cost php 37, from the town to Barangay Bagay ride a motorcycle which cost php 80-100 per head. Upon reaching the Barangay, head out to the Barangay hall and enlist your name and pay php 20 (courtesy calls are done there). A guide must be informed days before the hike, it's important to have a contact person in Igbaras. Guide fee is per head costing php 200. Are you up for the challenge? Hike up!
